Since 2004, so-called prostate centres have been established for those affected. Experts from various disciplines, such as urologists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and radiotherapists, work together closely in these centres and guarantee care that meets uniform and tested quality standards. Together, they develop an optimal course of therapy depending on the stage of the disease and the general condition of the patient. Diagnostics and therapy are subject to regular quality inspections carried out by the German Prostate Centres Association (DVPZ – Dachverband der Prostatazentren Deutschlands e. V.) or the German Cancer Society (DKG). Psychological support and contact with self-help groups are also provided.
